If you share your life with a reactive dog, you’ll know the scan. That automatic sweep of the environment before you even open the gate. The mental calculation — dog ahead, family to the left, cyclist coming. The walk that’s supposed to be the highlight of your dog’s day, and yours, but has become something you manage rather than enjoy.
Freya and Pete know it well. They arrived at Holiday With Your Dogs in March 2026 with Polly, Minnie and Ash — ‘Minnie by name, not by nature’, as Freya playfully noted in our guest book!
The Moment
Halfway through their first walk in our private country park for the exclusive use of guests, something happened. Pete stopped walking. He took a breath and said: “This is what a normal dog walk feels like.”
That moment is why Holiday With Your Dogs exists.
Both Ends of the Lead
Reactive dog ownership is exhausting in a way that’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t lived it. It’s not just the dog who needs a break. Freya described their stay as “a total reset for both ends of the lead” — and that phrase has stayed with me, because it captures what I know: when your dog is struggling, it’s often a struggle for you too. A holiday should give you both space and time to breathe.
